Software

Linux system comes with many standard applications, such as vi (vim), emacs, (g)zip and compress tools, PDF and PS view, compilers, etc.

One big difference is that we are now using Open Office instead of Star Office. There is no need for individual account setup any more. Click Start->Office to use its programs. If you use GNome desktop, it is also on the taskbar.

Note: because of limit of network licenses, some software (especially Maple) will exceed license limit if multiple users want to run the program at the same time. For users' convenience Maple 9.5 has been installed on lab PCs in Krieger 207.

If you notice that your favorite software in (old) chow is missing, please let me know. In some cases, a similar program exists, but with a different command.
