This is the first half of the standard first-year graduate course.
The course is being RESCHEDULED for
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:00-1:15, room TBA.
This course will concentrate on the classical representation theory of
finite groups, including the permutation groups, but treated in a manner
that extends to compact topological groups, such as the classical Lie
groups. The course is definitely algebraic in nature, and the main
prerequisites are a knowledge of standard algebraic concepts such as
groups, rings and modules over a ring, as contained in 110.401 and part
of 110.402. Other related topics will be covered as time permits.
The course is scheduled for
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00-10:15, room TBA.
This Web page contains short handouts that supplement the
texts for various courses.
This Web page is a storage area for old examinations.
This Web page is managed by the Department of Mathematics and contains
a great deal of useful information.
This page currently contains seating charts for four large classrooms:
- Krieger 205,
- Mergenthaler Auditorium (Room 111),
- Remsen 1, WARNING: The seating in this room has been
