Please be sure to fill out the Merlin course evaluations at http://www.jhu.edu/~merlin/ You will need to do so from a Hopkins computer. These are very important, and it is essential that everybody respond.

Exam 2 -- Tuesday, November 27, 3pm (take-home)
Final Exam -- Thursday, Dec. 20, 9am-noonIf you have conflicts for any of the above dates (or even if these are just really bad days... e.g., you already have multiple exams on those days), please let me know ASAP (and certainly before the date) so that we may talk about a make-up exam.
The text book (Frazier) is on sale through Springer-Verlag (the publisher) right now. They are selling it for $37.50 vs. the retail price of $49.95. If you are interested, please see their website: http://www.springer-ny.com/yellowsale/

Due to popular demand, the take-home quizzes will be collected on Tuesdays (not Mondays as
originally announced). It only makes sense for me to alter my office hours, then. See the alterations above.
If you are having difficulty getting the notes printed out because of an internal error, please try the following:
(1) Open the notes webpage
(2) Right click on the link to the notes that you want to open
(3) Choose Save Target As
(4) Save the notes as a file to the computer
(5) Close the browser
(6) Double click on the .pdf file that you just saved. The problem seems to be with the way that browsers and Adobe Acrobat Reader interact. This seems to get around that.
[9/11/01]
The university is closed today, and class is cancelled. I hope that everybody's friends and families are safe.
I will not be assigning homework this week. The first assignment will be distributed a week from Wednesday and will be due on Monday, Sept. 24. If you are likely to need longer due to today's events, please speak with me at your earliest convenience.
Dr. Haskins' meeting for undergraduate research in mathematics is also cancelled. More information on the course can be found here: http://www.math.jhu.edu/~mhaskin/teaching/ug_research/ug_research.html and Dr. Haskins has asked that you e-mail him if you are interested in the course: mhaskin@math.jhu.edu
The date/time for the final exam was not listed on the syllabus that I distributed on 9/10/01. The final exam (according to the university's exam schedule) is Thursday, Dec. 20 from 9am-noon. Please keep this in mind when making travel arrangements for winter break!
