Charles W. Wilson, M.D. passed away in Guadalajara, Mexico on May 12, 2002. Born Charles William Wilson, August 12, 1916, St. Joseph, MO, to Jacob Resor and Estella Cherrie Wilson (deceased). He was married to Frances Preshia Stephenson, June 20, 1942 (deceased in 1997).

Dr. Wilson was a physician, psychiatrist, parapsychologist, psychotherapy researcher, lecturer, and author.

He received a BA at Wichita University in 1938 and an M.D. at Kansas University in 1942. He was an intern at Harper Hospital, Detroit, MI, 1942-43, and a resident physician in neurology at University Hospitals, Iowa City, IA, 1946-47. He was a resident physician in psychiatry at Central State Hospital in Norman, OK, 1964-67.

He served in the USNR Medical Corps in the pacific theater during WWII. He was in private practice in St. Francis, KS from 1947-1962 and in La Crosse, KS from 1962 to 1964. He was a staff psychiatrist with community mental health centers in Ponca City, OK 1967-1971, Santa Maria, CA, 1972, San Luis Obispo, CA 1973-1975, and Atascadero State Hospital, 1975-1979. He was the psychiatric didrector of the mental health center for students at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK, 1968-1971. He had a private practice in psychiatry and medical hypnosis in Santa Maria, CA from 1971-1987.

Dr. Wilson was a member or former member of the following profession societies. American Psychiatric Association, Oklahoma Psychiatric Association, Southern California Psychiatric Society, Academy of Parapsychology and Medicine, American Medical Association, Kansas Medical Society, Northwest Kansas Medical Society, (Pres., 1951-52), Oklahoma Medical Society, Cleveland County Medical Society, (OK), Kay County Medical Society, (OK), California Medical, Santa Barbara County Medical Society, American Academy of General Practice, Charter Member of American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, International Society of Hypnosis, and American Association of Advancement of Science.

Dr. Wilson enjoyed community service and worked with the Boy Scouts of America as a scoutmaster, explorer leader, scouter trainer and several other positions for 23 years. He was a member of Rotary International for 19 years in St. Francis, KS (pres., 1955) and in Ponca City, OK. He was active in the Lions Club and served on the elementary school board in St. Francis, KS. He was involved with the American Legion, Phi Lambda Pi, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Men of Webster, Phi Beta Pi, Delta Upsilon, and Toastmasters International.

Dr. Wilson was a lay leader in the Methodist Church in La Crosse, KS and a committer member of the First Methodist Church in Norman, OK. He served as a Sunday school teacher in the Methodist Church in Ponca City, OK.

He authored Stop Bedwetting, Basque Press, 1979.

Among many honors and awards Dr. Wilson received were a citation by the National Parent Teachers Association, Eagle Scout, Silver Explorer Award, Wood Badge and Scoutmasters Key from the Boy Scouts of America. He was an extension professor for California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA and an extension instructor at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, CA.

Dr. Wilson considered his outstanding professional achievements to include more than twenty-five years of research in the function and treatment of the unconscious mind: cause and treatment of neuroses and psychosomatic disorders. His research lead him to develop and use four rapid psychotherapies, Reality Insight Therapy, Body Image Therapy -Programmed Personality Integration, Indirect Remote Psychotherapy and Sleep-Teach Therapy. He also developed a rapid motivational program.

Wilson of Tacoma, WA, grandson Saul Wilson of Baltimore, MD, and granddaughter Alison Wilson of Tacoma, WA. The immediate family present held a memorial service at his home in La Floresta, Jalisco, Mexico on Friday evening, May 17. Remembrances can be made in the name of Charles W.
